Hi Everyone,

I'm back with another card created with KellyCraft Innovations Get-it-Straight Laser Square.  I decided with this post I would teach you how to do a card that doesn't take a really long time to create, but it's different in how it folds.

I love creating cards that are somehow different from the normal.  I love cards that fold different, are shaped different, or maybe a card that moves, or shakes...you get the idea.  Each month I teach you how to create different types of cards, but always made with my favorite tool, the Get-it-Straight Laser Square!

Supplies

KellyCraft Get-it-Straight Laser Square

Bazzill Basics Papers 12" x 12"

Bo Bunny Pattern Paper

Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry Paper Glue

Spellbinders Grand Calibur

Spellbinders Grand Templates

Clearsnap Inkpads- Watermark, Mudslide, Cookie Dough & Artichoke

TPC Studio Rubber Stamps

Copper Mini Brads (4)

Instructions



Cut all of your papers. Tan cardstock 9 1/2" x 7 1/4", Blue

7 1/2" x 71/2", 3 1/2" x 2 1/4", Brown 4" x 3" and pattern

paper 2 1/4" x 7 1/4".

 

Using template from Grand Templates, run through

 Grand Calibur machine following the manufacturer's directions



Score tan cardstock at 4 1/4" and blue cardstock at 2 1/2"

using the Get-it-Straight Laser Square

With the card opening on the left, stamp keys with inkpads

Stamp wording on small piece of blue cardstock with

Mudslide inkpad, using Get-it-Straight Laser Square

Adhere all of the papers together (see pictures for placement)

Use the Get-it-Straight Laser Square to line papers up perfectly.

Adhere wording to brown cardstock with four brads.

For the inside of the card, stamp keys randomly with

Watermark inkpad. Stamp wording with Mudslide inkpad,

remembering to stamp it on the left side of cardstock.

Use the Get-it-Straight Laser Square for perfect alignment,

adhere tan cardstock to the inside of the blue cardstock.

Adhere wording to card front being careful to only gluing

the left side, keeping the right side free for opening the card.

Daddy's Girl

This quick and easy layout is simple, but tells the story. 

I ran across this photo a few days ago (I had an attack of get my computer files in order for 2013). It always makes me smile. The photo was made on Christmas Eve around 1956 at my Aunt Ola's home. I know Daddy must have worked all day, had just had a big Christmas dinner and was exhausted. I, on the other hand, was wide awake and ready to open presents!

Daddy loved Christmas, and this photo reminds me of all the things we loved. Because of space limitations, I couldn't list them all. I'm thinking I need to go back and add "..Just a few of.." to the beginning of that list, because we had so many things that we both loved and both loved to do (I'll save my first experience on the golf course at age 6 for a later posting).

Sometimes when we wait until we have all the right papers, a new bottle of glue or tape dispenser, the perfect embellishments, we miss the joy of preserving the memory. When you forget the little things, they are lost forever. The moral of this meandering thought? Forget about having the perfect everything and just get the memory down. If you want to add bling and more embellishments later, you can. We are not guaranteed that there will be a tomorrow. If you are the only person left with the memory of the photo's importance, it's up to you to record that memory. I'll step down off my soapbox now,

This page is an example of Down n' Dirty scrapbooking, and having the Get It Straight Laser Square from KellyCraft makes it so quick and easy. I printed out my page elements, trimmed them to size and then layered them all onto black cardstock, using the Get It Straight Laser Square to align the elements. Once this was done, it took less than 7 minutes to put this page together, and I was able to add an element of surprise (the angled bullets) easily, just by turning the orientation of my page in relation to the Get It Straight Laser Square.

TIP: If you design your page in a computer drawing program on a 12 X 12 layout, you can size your photos and journaling perfectly. Once you are happy with it, just change the page size to 8 1/2" x 11" (unless you are lucky enough to have a 12" printer) and place each element on the smaller pages to print. If you're making a smaller page, you can print the entire thing on one piece of cardstock.
Here's how I did it:
Supplies
Get It Straight Laser Square from KellyCraft
Bo Bunny 12 x 12 cardstock
Black cardstock, 8 1/2 X 11, 3 sheets
Cream cardstock, 2 sheets
Beacon ZipDry Adhesive
Want2Scrap Say It with Bling swirls and rhinestones

Assembly
1. Create headline and journaling on computer. Print journaling and the photo on cream cardstock and trim each piece.

2. Using the KellyCraft Get It Straight Laser Square, line up each element on black cardstock and trim.

Line up tags on black cardstock.

3. Using the KellyCraft Get It Straight Laser Square, place headline and photo on 12 X 12 cardstock.

Place headline and photo on page.

4. Turn the entire page to approximately 45° to the left. Use this orientation to place all the bullet journaling.

Turn page and use the beam to decide where to add your bullet tags.

Tip: Use repositionable adhesive to hold the page in place while to add the bullet points.

5. Add bling as desired.

It took me longer to write the directions than it did to create the page from start to finish.

What are your favorite childhood memories? Record them now so your children and their children will know what it was like in the "olden days" (My dad always laughed when I asked him about the olden days.).

I love to make birthday cards. I don't always get them in the mail on time, but I still love the creative process of making them. This sentiment has been around for a long time in one form or another, but I can remember my Dad wishing me "Hoppy Birdie" when I was a child. I don't know where it originated, so if it came from you, please let me know and I will happily give you credit. Otherwise, all the credit goes to my funny, sweet father, who I am so thankful for.

Other things I am thankful for are my KellyCraft Get-it-Straight Laser Square, the fabulous Duetica Lettering Arts Studio, my Big Shot and all the fabulous dies, Viva Décor products, and Graphic 45 and Bo Bunny papers. They just seem to inspire me to create bigger and better things. This little card may not be bigger (well, it is actually a 6" x 6", so I guess that's bigger than the ones I usually make),  but I think it's one of my all-time favorite designs. The first one of these was made for my BFF Linda Gordon Bradshaw for her 65th birthday (I can't believe we have known each other for 52 -count 'em- 52 years!), and I've been making it ever since, just changing the colors, papers and embellishments.

Card Front Detail

The background paper I chose is very busy and not conducive to eyeballing a straight line. Even though your aligning skills may be way up there, it's still hard to get it right the first time with random paper patterns, which can result in damaged paper and extremely frayed nerves. This is where my great KellyCraft Get-it-Straight Laser Square comes in.

Here's how I did it:

Graphic 45 (51/2" x 5 1/2") and Bob Bunny (6" x 12", folded to 6" x6") Cardstock, plus small scraps for punching
Cream cardstock(Stampin' Up!®)
Chipboard, 51/2" square
Duetica Lettering System Software, Saxi Font
Sizzix Big Shot and Tim Holtz Caged Bird Die
Woven Trim, 8"
Viva Décor 3D Stamp Paint, Copper
Viva Décor Sponge Applicator
Viva Décor Inka Gold, Orange, Lava Green, Cobalt Blue, Lava Red
The Robin's Nest Dew Drops

Directions

Step 1.

1. Apply double stick tape to backside of woven trim. Line up 51/2" square cardstock on the  KellyCraft Laser Square and set the guide at 3/4". Remove backing paper from tape and carefully apply the trim slightly below the laser line. Fold excess to the back of the cardstock.

2. Cut bird, cage and wing from Caged Bird die. Apply Inka Gold to bird and wing and edge with Vintage Photo Distress Ink for contrast.

Step 3.

3. Apply Viva Décor 3D Stamp Paint to the cage using the sponge applicator in and up and down motion to create an uneven surface. This will not only give the look of aged metal, but also the feel. Allow to dry, then add more age with Vintage Photo ink applied randomly, direct to paper. Apply glue dots to back of cage.

Step 4.

4. Using the KellyCraft Get-it-Straight Laser Square, line up birdcage bottom approx. 3/8" from the bottom of the 51/2" square, and adhere in place. Apply Best Glue Ever to openings across the bottom of the cage and add Dew Drops.

5. Use Inka Gold to make the flowers match the background paper. Adhere in place and add Dew Drops with Best Glue Ever. Cut 1/2" circles from scrap printed paper and edge with Vintage Photo ink for the large flower centers. Adhere in place.

Step 5.

6. Cut a small slit in the bird's beak to hold the tag. Slide bird into cage, allowing the head to peek out a little.

7. Print "Hoppy Birdie to You" using the Duetica Lettering Arts Studio software on cream cardstock. I used my finger to add Vintage Photo Distress ink to the edges and across the surface of the tag. Tie hemp around tag, add glue dots to the back and slip between the slits in the bird's beak.

Step 8.

8. Apply large glue dots to the back of the card front and use the KellyCraft Get-it-Straight Laser Square to align it perfectly on the card fold.


That's it. Easy as pie and it looks like you spent hours on it.
