Centering Banners with the Get-It-Straight Laser Square

Project by: Kristin Kelly

Time With Family scrapbook layout

Placing a banner using the KellyCraft Get-It-Straight Laser Square

Supplies:
Get-It-Straight Laser Square
Wood grain paper - DCWV
Florentine paper pack - Close To My Heart
Card stock - CTMH
Desert Sand Re-inker - CTMH
Stamps, ribbon, adhesive pearls - CTMH
Cricut machine
Plantin Schoolbook Cricut Cartridge
Adhesive - Glue Dots, Pop Dots, Scotch

I have a bad habit of leaving my pictures on my camera card for way too long. So when I finally got around to downloading pictures and saw the pictures we took this April at Washington On The Brazos State Park, I had to make a layout! I use my Laser Square with practically every project I do, but when I decided to put a banner on this layout, I knew my Laser Square was the perfect tool to help with the job! After putting together the bulk of my layout, I was ready to put on the banners.

So first, I needed to mark the center point for my banner. For the word 'Family', I was using the full width of my page, so I set my Laser Square at 6" to place the flags for the M and I. The words I used happened to have an even number of letters, so my center was between two letters. If the words had an odd number of letters, you would just place the flag for the middle letter at the center point.

Then, to get the remaining flags even with each other, I turned my Laser Square to shine the line horizontally across the page to align the top corners of the flags for the remaining letters.

Using the same technique, I placed the banner for the word 'Time' on the first page. Adding the remaining embellishments and pictures, and a family scrapbook layout is complete!

And while my banners weren't straight across, the Laser Square was crucial to getting them centered and even across the page! Yet another use for the Get-It-Straight Laser Square! Making scrapbooking quicker and easier and straight and even!

Mini ART Quilt with the Laser Square

While at the CHA Winter Show in January I taught a Demo-nar (Seminar/Workshop) where we created a mini ART Quilt

using my new line of stamps from Unity Stamp Company , the Get-It-Straight Laser Square from KellyCraft Innovations, Trims from Expo International, stamp pads from Clearsnap, threads from Kreinik, fabric glue from Beacon Adhesives, buttons from Buttons, Galore and More , hangers from VELCRO® and no bake clay from Makin's.

To create I used the Get-It-Straight Laser Square
to help line up the triangle stamps.

to stamp out my design....

which is the "Flying Geese" pattern in quilting, getting it lined up
and straight was easy with the Get-It-Straight Laser Square.
Once you have your images stamped....

  • Place fabric on top of batting and backing fabric and quilt around flying geese pattern.
  • Arrange die cut flowers, buttons, clay buttons, word, and trims in a pleasing manner then sew or glue into place
  • Stitch a running stitch around outside edge of quilt.
Have fun and be creative!

Get-It-Straight Notebook

"Just a Note" Notebook By Ann Butler Designs
I love journals, notebooks and paper; I like to doodle, draw and write. Which may be why I like to create little notebooks and journals to have on hand for unexpected gifts and such. This little notebook was a snap to make since it was actually a purchased notebook that I picked up at a dollar store where they were 3 for $1....and yes I did pick up several to have on hand. I created the saying "Just a Note" with the Mandolyn font from the Duetica Lettering System. I printed the saying out on a piece of scrap print card stock by placing the print cardstock into the corner of the white card stock (where I knew it would print) with removable adhesive dots; making it easy to take off of the white card stock. I trimmed the saying down to fit on the front of the journal, inked up the edges, used my "Get-It-Straight" Laser Square to perfectly align the saying, glued it on and added the rhinestones. Created quick and easy, make several to have on hand for gifts!

Supplies:
"Get-It-Straight" Laser Square
Removable Adhesive Dots by Velcro® Brand
Duetica Lettering System: Mandolyn
Zip Dry by Beacon Adhesives
Colorbox Ink Pad: Mudslide

Rhinestone Swirl by Want2Scrap
Notebook 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"

Card Stock: white 8 1/2" x 11"

Card Stock: Decorative 5" x 5"
Scissor

Create saying "Just a Note" with the Duetica Lettering System and print out onto decorative card stock which has been adhered to white card stock with removable adhesive dots.
Cut saying to 3 1/4" x 3 1/2"; ink up the edges.

 Use the "Get-It-Straight" Laser Square

to aling the saying to the front of the notebook.

turn the notebook around to align it straight on all sides of the notebook,

You can see by the photo that it is easy to get it straight with the Laser Square.

Glue in place.
Adhere rhinestone swirl to front.

Get-It-Straight School Magnets

School Magnets by Ann Butler

I have collected a lot of magnets over the years; the kind of magnets that calendars, events and other things are printed on. They are to good to throw away but are out of date so they are perfect to re-purpose. With back to school here already I thought this would be a great time to make some school magnets...the kind that can be used to show off those great school projects, spelling test, drawings and other things that parents so proudly place on the fridge from their kids. I grabbed some white card stock and printed off some sayings like: "Awesome", "Good Job" and "Way to Go" using the Floot font from the Duetica Lettering System. I cut them out and layered them on top of some print card stock in school colors using the "Get-It-Straight" Laser Square and glued them onto the magnets, then I trimmed the magnet down to size. Oh so quick and easy, but the kids are going to love them.
