Come Sit by Me Card by Martha Lucia Gomez

Come Sit By Me!
Designed by Martha Lucia Gomez

I created this card using the Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square, Multi-Mat™ and Jimbo Lojik™ Stamp Set J. With these tools it is very easy to align and assemble my projects.

Materials:

KellyCraft™ -  Get-it-Straight™ Laser Square
                      - Multi-Mat™
                      - Jimbo Lojik™ Stamp Set J
Stampin Up - Card Stock Very Vanilla and Raspberry Ripple, Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder
Sizzix BigShot
Memento Black Tuxedo Ink Quick Quotes
PowerPuff Chalk Ink Razzberry
Ranger-  Distress Ink Antique Linen, Distress Ink Victorian Velvet, Blending Tool
Snail Adhesive
Dimensionals
Glue Dots
Bella Blvd. Feathers

Instructions:

1. Cut all the pieces to build the card. The size of the card is a regular size 5-1/2"x4-1/4". The second layer is 5-1/4" x4" the third is 5"x1-1/2."

2.  Create the embossing for the second layer using the Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder and your Big Shot.

3. Paste this layer directly over your card base aligning this with the Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square.

4. Ink you stamp with Memento Black Ink and use Get-it-Straight™ Laser Square to align and stamp your message.

5.  Put some dimensionals behind  your message and use Get-it-Straight™ Laser Square to align and paste this on the bottom part.

6. Now using a chipboard piece to finalize the decoration of the card . First ink the entire piece with a neutral color of Distress Ink like Antique Linen, then stamp a main image with another color and finally ink the borders with PowderPuff Chalk Ink Razzberry from Quick Quotes.

7. Take a green Feather from Bella Blvd and use a glue dot to paste it behind the chair. Attach the
chair to the card and give it your personal touch.

I hope you liked the project and come back soon for more inspiration!

Ruth's Jam Cake: Yum, yum!

I came up with an idea a few days ago to create an illustrated cookbook of family recipes that we traditionally have for holidays. I can't tell you how many times my son Michael has called to get my recipe for eclair pie or coconut cake or chicken and dressing. He needs this cookbook. I knew it would take a while, but wanted to make it really personal. I tried to think of all the ways I could make it special but was stumped on the format. Illustrations? Too much time involved. Plain recipe cards? Not for this artist. And then I thought, "Well, duh. I'm a scrapbooker. I teach scrapbooking." I just don't always connect the ease of creating pages with other tasks.

To make it even easier, I am limiting my pages to 8" x 8". That size is larger than a standard 6" x 6", which would require small type for these older eyes, yet not so big as to be unwieldy in the kitchen where a 12" x 12" book might require too much counter space just to keep it open.

My KellyCraft Get-it-Straight Laser Square makes lining things up quick and easy. (It actually took me longer to set the type and print out my recipe than it did to assemble the page.) The title block is set using the Duetica Lettering Arts Woodwynds font, one of my favorites and available only from Duetica.

Here's how I made the first of what I hope to be many pages for this personal cookbook:

Supplies
KellyCraft Get-It-Straight Laser Square
Solid Cardstock, Olive  Green, 8" x 8"  and scraps to die cut (Bazzill)
Printed paper, 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
Printed Paper with doorway smaller than 6" tall (Bo Bunny)
Photo, fussy cut
Spellbinders Shapeabilities, Jewel Flowers and Flourishes, S5-168
Spellbinders Shapeabilities, Classic Scalloped Rectangles, S4-133
Dew Drops, The Robin's Nest
Glue Dots, large dimensional (for photo) and small flat for recipe card titles.
Score Tape, 1/2" width
Colorbox Pigment Ink, Chestnut Roan, pink, purple
Xyron Machine with permanent adhesive
Recipe and title block set on computer and printed on cream cardstock
Brown Sharpie, Fine Point

Directions
Note: All of the pieces are sponged on the edges with Chestnut Roan ink.
1. Line up the solid cardstock in the corner of the Laser Square. Set the guide at 1/4" and adhere the printed paper to the cardstock.
2. Use Spellbinders dies to cut three swirls (from green cardstock scraps) and two medium and two small scalloped squares (from printed paper scraps). Ink all the edges with Chestnut Roan ink. Run the swirls through your Xyron machine.
3. Line up the photo in the center of the arched doorway and adhere with two large Glue Dots. Line up the top of the doorway paper using the Laser Square and adhere. Adhere swirls around the photo.
4. Adhere title block to top of page, lining up the top of the block about 3/8" below the printed paper , which would be 5/8" from the top of the green cardstock. Add a portion of one of the die cut swirls to the block.
5. Adhere the recipe cards to the larger scalloped squares. Write "Jam Cake" and "Icing" on the two smaller scalloped squares and adhere just above the recipes.
6. Angle the top recipe card and adhere it to the page. Turn the page so that your Laser Square light lines up with the top of the recipe card. Bring the light guide down to about 3/4" from the bottom of the top card and adhere the second recipe. They will be aligned perfectly. The Laser Square makes this so easy!
7. Attach the recipe title blocks to each recipe and add Dew Drops randomly around the swirls.

Now, I know where to find this recipe when I'm ready to make this awesome cake and I won't mind anyone seeing my recipe book anymore, since the pages will be interesting and the sheet protectors will keep them clean. I have several that have been around for 40+ years and you can see fingerprints in flour, pastry, oil, etc. of the ingredients of the dish I was preparing at the time. (That may be sentimental to some people, but I'd rather leave a legacy of neatness.)

This book will hold a special place in my kitchen, reminding me of all the love that went into the preparation of each dish and the preparation of the book.

"Fish Stories" Scrapbook Layout with KellyCraft™ and Spellbinders®

Project by Cindi Bisson

The KellyCraft™ Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square made aligning the multiple components of this layout easy to achieve.  I created two versions of this layout, the instructions for the first are below, and the second is almost identical, except some elements are reversed.

Materials:

KellyCraft™ Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square
Spellbinders® Grand Calibur® Machine
Spellbinders® M-Bossabilities™ Numbers and Letters
Spellbinders® Impressabilities™Circles
Spellbinders® Shapeabilities® Imperial Gold - Gold Elements
Bright green and orange white core cardstock
Orange and white number patterned paper
Blue & green plaid patterned paper
Grey measuring tape patterned paper
Craft Attitude™ Scrapbooking Attitude™
Glue stick
Making Memories Foam Stamps
Plaid® Folk Art® Acrylic Paint - Tangerine
Paintbrush, sandpaper, black marker
Glue Dots®
Westcott® Paper Trimmer
Copper mini brads, copper label holder

Instructions:

Cut 12 x 12” measuring tape patterned paper in half diagonally.  Use
KellyCraft™ Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square to straightly mount onto green background paper, approximately 1/4” from top edge using Glue Dots®.

Use Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square to align strip of orange and white number paper straightly vertically approximately 1/2” from right edge and mount.

Emboss 5 x 7” bright green cardstock with Spellbinders® Grand Calibur® Machine and Spellbinders® M-Bossabilities™ Numbers and Letters.

Lightly sand to expose some white areas.

Emboss orange cardstock with Grand Calibur® and Spellbinders® Impressabilities™Circles.

From embossed orange cardstock, cut 2 corner embellishments with Grand Calibur® and  Spellbinders® Shapeabilities® Imperial Gold - Gold Elements.

Lightly sand to expose some white areas.

Type fish words in various fonts, add fish images, REVERSE TEXT, and print onto Scrapbooking Attitude™.

Type “Sometimes”  and “are true”, REVERSE TEXT and print onto Scrapbooking Attitude™.

Cut plaid patterned paper to 4 1/4 x 11”.

Apply tangerine paint to foam letter stamps, stamp onto plaid paper using
KellyCraft™ Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square to align lettering (*Note - I used two different sets of letter stamps so letters are not all of uniform size, but aligning the bottom edges of the foam stamps ensured straight placement.)

Trim title wording, fish words and fish from Scrapbook Attitude™.  Apply glue stick to each title word (Sometimes, and, are true) and mount above and beneath foam stamped wording using Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square to ensure alignment.

Use Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square to align three small copper brads next to “are true” on title.

Mount title piece onto layout, using laser square to ensure alignment, approximately 1” from top edge, at right edge of paper.

Mount each fish word and fish image over strip of orange printed paper using Get-It-Straight™ Laser Square.

Cut mat from light blue cardstock approximately 1/8” larger on all sides than green embossed photo mat.   Mount embossed piece to mat using Glue Dots®.

Add embossed die cut photo corners to top left and bottom right corners, mounting with Glue Dots®.

Add 4 x 6” photo, and mount to left bottom of page.

Cut strip of blue cardstock approximately 1/2” x 6”.  Mount beneath left edge of smaller photo, and mount onto page overlapping larger photo.

Add copper label holder over photos.  Add name & date to scrap of plaid paper and mount in label holder.

Be-you-tiful with KellyCraft Get-It Straight Laser Square

Created by: LaJeania Hicks

I created this layout for my scrapbooking club for July. I absolutely love the Claire paper pack and the fun colors that it features. The dark blue and the pinks work so well together to make a fabulously girlie layout. I have used this layout design in the past and have struggled with getting the mats straight. Of course now that I have my KellyCraft Get-It-Straight Laser Square, that is no longer an issue and everything is lined up perfectly. The layout will soon feature pictures of our daughter just being herself, which of course is always be-you-tiful!

Supplies:
KellyCraft Get-It-Straight Laser Square
Claire Paper Pack – Close To My Heart
Outdoor Denim, Hollyhock, & Blush Ink Pads (CTMH)
Solid cardstock - Colonial White, Hollyhock, Blush, & Outdoor Denim (CTMH)
Sparkles – Clear, Pink, & Blue (CTMH)
Spinner (CTMH)
Imagine How-To Book  -“Dynamic Due” Pattern pg. 48-49 (CTMH)
Girls Rock & Wheel of Life Stamp Sets – (CTMH)
Alphilicious, Art Philosophy, & Jasmine Cricut cartridges
Adhesive (Glue Dots, Pop Dots, Scotch)

Instructions:
1. After cutting all pieces of paper according to the layout guide in the how-to book, I sanded all of the cardstock to give the layout a softer look. I also sponge inked all of the patterned paper with Outdoor Denim ink.

2. Use your Get-It-Straight Laser Square to line up all pieces of patterned paper and cardstock.

3. Use your Get-It-Straight Laser Square to layer the mats and place them on the layout.

Don’t you just love layers!

4. Use your Get-It-Straight Laser Square to keep all of those mats straight horizontally…

5. And vertically!

6. Using the Get-It-Straight LaserSquare, I pop dotted the letters of my title to make it stand out.

7. What girlie layout would be complete without some bling and flowers?
I added lots of both for the finishing touch.
Now to print out the perfect pictures!
This layout was so simple and easy to put together using the  Get-It-Straight Laser Square.

The Many Faces of Kendall!

Created by: LaJeania Hicks

I absolutely love the colors in the Dream Pop paper pack. When I saw these colors I thought of our bright, vibrant, little girl! I was looking through a few pics of her and noticed all of her faces and thought it would be fun to create a colorful layout featuring her many faces. I remembered seeing a layout design on Pinterest that I thought would be perfect, but I knew I would need the KellyCraft Get-It-Straight Laser Square to line up all of the pictures and paper perfectly!

Supplies:
KellyCraft
Get-It-Straight Laser Square
Dream Pop Paper Pack – Close To My Heart
Cotton Candy Ink Pad (CTMH)
Solid cardstock, 3 sheets White Daisy, 1 sheet Slate (CTMH)
Glitter Gems (CTMH)

Cricuit Die Cutting Machine
Alphilicious Cricut cartridge
Adhesive (Glue Dots, Pop Dots, Scotch)

Instructions:
1. Cut a two pieces of White Daisy card stock 10x11. Round both corners on one end of each piece. Cut 7 pieces of patterned paper 2.5x3.5 and one piece at 2.75x9.75. Sponge ink the edges of all pieces of paper with Cotton Candy ink. Cut seven pictures at 2.5x6. Cricut cut the letters for the name. Print ‘The Many Faces of” on the patterned paper.

2. Use your Get-It-Straight Laser Square to line up all pictures and patterned paper on the White Daisy cardstock leaving 1/8” at top, bottom, and sides of the cardstock.

3. I love that I can turn my layout and make sure everything is perfectly straight vertically and horizontally!

4. Use your Get-It-Straight Laser Square to adhere the White Daisy cardstock mats to the Pink base pages leaving 1” on the top, bottom, and outside edge.

5. Use your Get-It-Straight LaserSquare to line up the letters for the name and attach with pop dots.

6. Finally, add some bling to the layout with the pink glitter gems.

This layout was so simple and easy to put together using the
 Get-It-Straight Laser Square.
